What does riding a bike have to do with reiki?
It is said that once you have learned to ride a bike you never forget. It's a skill that stays with you. I can't remember the last time I was on a bike, possibly around 10 years ago? I'm sure if I attempted to ride a bike I'd wobble. I might find it difficult to balance. However I'm sure that if I persevered and kept practicing I'd improve, there would be less wobble and I might even pick up some pace. I'm equally sure that Sir Chris Hoy (there I go showing my age again) has nothing to worry about.
So, what's that got to do with reiki?
Reiki is a skill that requires practice. Once you have made that connection to reiki you never lose it. We might lose our confidence, we might think it's been so long since we practiced that we wont remember. Some people might feel that they want to retrain. I believe that this is not neccessary. It is obviously fine if you choose to retrain, your Reiki Master Teacher might have a special offer for past students. Some people chose to retrain with a different teacher even if they are practicing, just to gain a different perspective and a deeper understanding. I'm a big fan of lifelong learning!
If you have lost your way
My advice is to restart your daily practice. Dig out your training material if you need to. Start with Hatsurei Ho and Kenyoku. Connect to reiki energy and allow the energy to flow, it can do no harm. Reflect on the precepts and if you have been attuned to symbols, meditate on those. Practice gratitude and mindfulness. You may be surprised to discover your connection is still strong. Be patient with yourself if it takes a while to develop.
Find support
You might be the only member of your family who practices reiki. It's important to find people who share your interests. Look for reiki shares or reiki groups in your area. Find out about them and choose one that feels right and fits your schedule. If there is nothing in your area, there are many online reiki communities.
How can I help?
I am happy to answer questions asked in this blog. I also host reiki shares and reiki development circles. You can find more information about those in the reiki workshop section of this website.
So what does riding a bike have to do with reiki?
Absolutely nothing! As we enter a meditative state when we practice reiki I do not advise combining the two! The only thing they have in common is that they are skills we learn that we may not practice for some time but we can pick up from wherever we are and rediscover them.
Personally, I think I'll stick with reiki!
I'd love to hear your thoughts about this.
